Most guests tell me that they wished they'd booked a few extra days in Franschhoek, once they arrive.  There is so much to do and see which they were not aware of and thought a one day wine stop was all it would be.  That is not so!  Check out this list of fabulous places to visit, things to do and stuff to experience which will keep you coming back for more in years to come.

Day 1: Friday

It's an action-packed itinerary so get here early! The Franschhoek Adventure Bus departs at 10am and is the best way to orientate yourself to the area.  The 2 hour sight-seeing trip takes you to the four corners of the valley and you will quickly become familiar with where the wine farms are, the best restaurants, the interesting and historical sights and the best views.  From there you can plan the rest of your stay to maximum enjoyment.

Once back in town, spend the day visiting the immediate area.  Go for a fabulous lunch at one of the wine farms and relax under the oak trees in the garden.  You would enjoy La Petite Ferme with its expansive lawns and vineyards, fabulous restaurant and one of the best views in the valley.  After lunch, take a quick walk around the village for some retail therapy.  Our very short main road is packed with great shops offering everything from leather goods to take-home curios to haute couture fashion.  Our many cafes and coffee shops will keep you hydrated and ward off any peckishness and you could stop for ice-cream at River Cafe.   To end off the afternoon, join the Sundowner bike wine tour at 3:30pm which is a leisurely ride through the vineyards on mountain bikes stopping for a wine tasting at one of our smallest boutique wineries.  You will also be treated to a cellar tour before making your way back to the main road just after 5pm, in time to get ready for dinner.   For dinner, you are certainly spoilt for choice.  Depending on your taste and budget, there is something for everyone.  You may want to try one of our high-end fine-dining establishments on your first night.  Le Petite Colombe is the go-to eatery with its 9 course tasting menu and wine pairing.  A bucket list item for many people, it is an amazing experience and well worth the high cost.  If that's a bit out of your budget, you will enjoy Le Coin Francais, another fine-dining establishment of high repute.  Other excellent choices for fabulous food is Reubens or Le Petit Manoir.

After hours, if you're in the mood for some live entertain and dancing, join the locals at the Elephant and Barrel pub at 10pm.  Every Friday night a live band rocks out popular numbers until the early hours and you are invited!
