Robertson is a town in the Western Cape Province of South Africa known as the valley of wine and roses, at the heart of the wine route - Route 62

Here are the fun, cool, family-friendly activities and attractions around Robertson Valley.

 

 

1. Become a trail blazer with Burcon Horse Trail Rides

 

Horses are unique and each comes with their own personality. Some horses need a strong hand others just tag along. The speed of the ride are determined by the riders. On each ride there are usually 4-5 total beginners and 3 experienced riders. This is ideal for families. After the rides you can swim with the horses(if weather permits)

 

 

 

 

2. A colour sensation at Bird’s Paradise


Bird’s Paradise in Robertson is ideal for families with small children.  With more than a hundred bird species such as Macaws, Conures and lots of waterfowl, it is truly an unforgettable experience. Birds from Australia to Peru, Central-America to Africa and Asia to Northern Wales have all made Bird’s Paradise their home.  They also boast Zebras, Springbok, Monkeys, Crocodiles.

There is a  coffee & curio shop where you can enjoy a delicious meal or something for the thirst. Fully licensed Restaurant.There is a large play area outside to keep the children busy while the adults enjoy something to eat.

Open Monday - Sunday between 08h30 - 17h00

Bookings required only for large groups.

 

 

3. Robertson Art Gallery

 

 

The Robertson art gallery exhibited work include the art of South African masters and renowned artists, as well as young and upcoming talent. As registered Art Exporters, they ship worldwide. Apart from the extraordinary selection of art, the gallery also offers a large range of Sterling Silver jewellery, as well as gifts and souvenirs as a reminder of your visit.

 

4. Robertson Moederkerk


Robertson Moederkerk is situated in this small cozy town. The congregation was established in 1853 and the first brick for this beautiful church was laid on 16 September of that year.  

5. Robertson Wine Valley


The Robertson Wine Valley association was formed in 1983 to cohesively improve the local wine industry, promote the valley as a tourism destination and uplift the community. Today Robertson wine valley proudly represent over 50 wineries and tourism establishments from the towns; Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson. Their valley is situated a merely 2 hour scenic drive from Cape Town on the renowned Route 62 and nestled between the majestic Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountain ranges with the graceful Breede River running through the valley..

 

6. Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve


 

Vrolijkheid is a striking, rugged nature reserve in the Breede River valley, about 15km south of Robertson on the road to McGregor. The rocky landscape is starkly beautiful, dominated by patches of succulents, dwarf trees and shrubs. In spring, Vrolijkheid lives up to its name –happiness – as splashes of bright orange botterblom daisies decorate the reserve.      

 

7. Viljoensdrift River Cruise and Wine Tasting

Viljoensdrift is blessed with a stretch of easy flowing river that can be enjoyed to relax and unwind, presenting an ideal opportunity to use it for leisure purposes. You can enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Uncle Ben barge while enjoying wine and a picnic.

8. Rafting Route 62

Rafting Route 62 is the only river rafting company operating in the Robertson on the Breede River. The trip is about 10 km filled with excitement, you paddle on the most scenic section of the Breede River. The river is gentle enough for first timers, with enough small rapids to make it exciting. This is an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Closed for the winter season! Opening again in September.
