The iconic Breytenbach Centre offers an exciting line-up of events to keep you busy in July.  Enjoy performance art, poetry, pop rock and exhibitions at this popular venue.

HA!Man en Belgiese digter kom kuier

20 Julie – Die vertoning begin om 20:00

HFrancois le Roux, oftewel ‘die HA!Man’ kuier op saam met sy lewensgesellin en verhoog-‘vennoot’, die Belgiese digter Joke Debaere, in Die Bôrdienghuis. Francois se hoofinstrument is die tjello, maar hy span ook klavier, kein fluite en liggaamsbeweging in om die ‘HA!’ of innerlike gevoel – in die oomblik uit te druk.

Joke neem by tye plaas agter die mikrofoon en sy begin óf voorlees óf spontaan poësie te skep saam met die musiek.

Kaartjies is R80 per persoon.

The Inside Job

Saturday 28 July.

The show starts at 20:00 and pizza and drinks will be sold from 18:00

The popular rock band from Paarl, The Inside Job, will perform in Die Bôrdienghuis at the Breytenbach Centre in Wellington. This local alternative indigenous rock band was formed in 2009 and is well-known for hardcore, funk and ballads. Each band member has more than 12 years of live experience in the music industry.

Drummer Melony Phoenixx brings along a rebellious image and sound. Her brother, Lionel John, entertains with his versatile voice and Shawn Adams brings a party element to the performance. Together they make locals proud when they rock the Paarl Rock.

The Inside Job has also been support acts for Karen Zoid, Jack Parow and Valiant Swart. In 2012 they competed against 48 bands in a national Battle of the Bands and finished 2nd.

Die groepuitstalling BLOU / BLUES, is nog by die Breytenbach-galery te sien. Sowat 15 kunstenaars, insluitende Louis Jansen van Vuuren, Marinda du Toit, Jennifer de Charmoy en die Wellingtonner Elsibe McGuffog se werke kan gesien word.

Die naakte waarheid – groepuitstalling deur mediese dokters

21 Julie om 11:00

Opening van ‘n groepuitstalling deur mediese dokters – drr. Pierre Botes, Heinz Modler, Hannes Loots, Emile Manefeldt en Wim Gericke. Die openingspreker is die bekende neuroloog, dr. Dion Opperman.

Mediese dokters is kreatief in hulle beroepe, maar hierdie handvol, talentvolle dokters neem hulle talente veel verder en wend hulle tot die kwas, kamera en beitel om hulle verder uit te leef. Kom sluit aan vir ‘n glas wyn en beleef die wonderwêreld van hierdie professie se skeppende verbeeldings.

Tuin van Digters 2018

14 en 15 September

Die sewende Tuin van Digters, die jaarlikse hoogtepunt op die kalender van Afrikaanse digkuns in die land. Vanjaar se tema is buite die boek – daar word onder meer gefokus op hoe verskillende mense uit verskillende gemeenskappe op verskillende maniere (in ’n gedig, deur musiek, met kunswerke, in openbare ruimtes, deur animasie, ensovoorts) uiting gee aan woorde, frases of gedigte om in ’n boodskap oor te dra. Die program sal in Julie bekendgemaak word.

Kaartjies vir ’n tweedagpakket kos weer R250 per persoon en sluit alle aanbiedings in. Net vir Vrydag is die prys R100 per persoon en net vir die Saterdag R200 per persoon. Studente betaal R60 per dag.
