THE LESSER-TRAVELLED SUMMER EXPERIENCES OF WELLINGTON

Located a mere hour’s drive from Cape Town Central, Wellington offers a welcome escape from the tourism bustle with some unique accommodation options, outdoor adventures and fabulous food and wine experiences.

Visitors can be immersed in the history of the town during a visit to the Victoria Jubilee Park, which was transformed from a brick making area to a park in 1888.  This open space in the middle of the town offers solitude and a bit of greenery with poetry found on the concrete benches placed throughout the rose garden.

Wine lovers will delight in discovering lesser-known wineries making some incredible wines.  Boutique winery Alkmaar Wines has a rich history spanning more than a century and offer some unique tastings by appointment. Jacaranda is the smallest registered wine estate in South Africa with a range of beautiful, handcrafted wines that can be tasted by prior booking. The tasting room at Imbuko embodies the friendly hospitality of the region and their famous pie and wine pairing is definitely a must.

The tasting room and cellar of Linton Park Wines is housed in the former outbuildings of the historic manor house.  Wines tastings are free if you donate to their Street Smart charity.  Light lunches are served at the Uncorked eatery overlooking the stunning gardens.

Take a nostalgic journey at Langkloof Roses with a special tea tasting in their intimate tea room before taking a stroll through the rose garden featuring over 14 000 rose plants. Spend the day at the tea room amongst the blooms and enjoy a variety of cakes and bakes, from fresh tea and scones, to cheeses and preserves.

Get close to nature during a game drive at Bontebok Ridge Reserve where the bioversity of the area is showcased against unspoiled natural surroundings and majestic mountains.  Finish your game drive with drinks and light refreshments at the lapa. Bartholomeus Klip is the epitomy of life on an African working sheep and wheat farm. Three luxurious farm houses and a gourmet restaurant recalls the elegance and tranquillity of a long-forgotten era.

Keep enjoying the rural serenity by booking a stay at the Little Farm on a Stream, a farmhouse style guesthouse situated on the slopes of the mountains just outside Wellington.  Tucked away amongst the olive groves, the farm is perfect for walking, cycling and close to several well-known wine farms.
