Paarl and Wellington will be proud host towns when the Absa Cape Epic is staged for the seventeenth time in March this year.  Wellington will host participants and supporters from 19 – 22 March 2020 for stages four to seven, while Paarl will host the grand finale at Val de Vie on 22 March 2020. Entries are capped at 650 two-person team, which means approximately 1300 riders will be able to explore these two spectacular Boland towns.

According to Annelize Stroebel, chief executive officer of the Drakenstein Local Tourism Association, the Cape Epic is a significant event on their annual calendar.  “It is an incredibly exciting platform to showcase the amazing beauty of Paarl and Wellington and to introduce a new audience to the diverse offerings of our areas.  We would like to welcome all Cape Epic visitors to our beautiful region, wish them happy cycling and hope to welcome them back soon.”

MTB fans, supporters and spectators are invited to watch all the action at the race village at the Wellington campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.  Get there early to watch the excitement of the arrival of the first riders and then enjoy the rest of the day with fun activities.

There are also spectator points along the route where mountain bike enthusiasts can watch all the action on big screens and experience each venue’s unique ambience and offerings. Visit Imbuko Wines from 07:45 – 10:45 on 20 March for Stage 5, while Stage 6 action will be happening at Welbedacht Wine Estate from 07:45 – 09:45, Linton Park Wines from 09:30 – 13:30 and Doolhof Wines from 10:30 – 15:30.

Stage 7 action will take place at D’vine Estate from 09:20 – 11:30 and Avondale Wine Estate from 9:30 – 13:30.

Sport the official race colours by dressing up in yellow and you could stand the chance to win spot prizes at the spectator points or race village on 20 and 21 March 2020.  Be on the lookout for the team from the local Visitors Centre in Wellington.

Locals and visitors should also note that the Bainskloof Pass will be closed on 19 March from 08:00 – 15:00 to accommodate the race.  Provincial traffic officials will be present to manage the closure.

The area surrounding the Wellington Visitors Centre in the middle of the village will also receive the yellow treatment to welcome race participants and supporters.  Contact the Wellington Visitors Centre on +27 (0) 21 864 1378 or follow the race live at https://www.cape-epic.com.
