Summer is here and the Visitors’ Information Center in Wellington have ideas for affordable things to do that will beat the budget for those of us left cash-strapped after this tumultuous no-fun year.

We are very conscious of the economic pressures on South Africans currently and want to let visitors know that there are still affordable options available when visiting our beautiful town or when a staycation is how you will be spending this festive season. We have options that are free or cost under R50 and R100.

Visitors can enjoy a free self-guided walking tour of the town and learn how once upon a time it was a place of wagonmakers and women educators. This walking tour’s brochure can be collected at the Wellington Visitor’s Information Centre and it will  be launched early in 2021 as a free downloadable Voicemap tour. At Breytenbach Art and Cultural Centre allow the Garden of Poets’ tranquility to flow over you and be inspired by the creative works of art in the Breytenbach Art Gallery. Take a scenic drive through Bainskloof Pass or explore Doolhof Wine Estate’s river walk and labyrinth. To browse and ‘shop with the eyes’ cost nothing. Lovely spots to do this is Ou Kaya Padstal, stukkieKaap’s festive season pop-up store, Perfect Place’s antiques and Redemption Fine Crafted Leather.

R50 and less will buy you a hiking trail permit for adults for R40 and children for R20 at Welvanpas Vineyards and entry to the Wellington Museum where they bring the past to life is R10 per adult and R5 per child. They are open only on weekdays. Experience Wellington’s coffee culture even during the hot Wellington summer months at Perfect Place and Wellington Coffee Café, with refreshing iced coffee and iced cappuccino options.

Activities under R100  include a day pass to the Wild Boar Trails at Val du Charron Wine & Leisure Estate (R100 pp), a Gourmet Pie and Wine Pairing at Imbuko Wines (R85 pp) showcasing The Van Zijl signature range of wines paired with four gourmet pies and a mouth-watering Doughnut and Wine Pairing at Wellington Wines (R80 pp).

Visit the Stone Kitchen at Dunstone Estate with the whole family for the most important meal of the day, breakfast, and let the children be entertained by their lovely children play areas.

Ladies pamper yourself to a 30-minute Rose Foot Soak and sit back and relax for R65 at Langkloof Roses or experience their Tea and Treat Tasting for the same amount per person.

At Jorgensens Distillery their Four Gins & a Cocktail Tasting is perfect for summer months. Four neat tasters of their premium handcrafted gins and one cocktail of your choice costs R80.

Inexpensive and suited to all makes it possible for everyone to explore Wellington whilst sticking to their budget this festive season. For more details about Visit Wellington’s visitor offerings follow us on social media or visit www.visitwellington.co.za.
