As part of its drive to boost youth employment, the Western Cape Government is currently showcasing skills and careers in the agriculture sector here on Boschendal Farm.
This is a three-day exhibition that started on Wednesday (18 May 2016) and will showcase innovative career choices in the agricultural sector.
Agriculture is a key growth area for the Western Cape. “Through Project Khulisa, we are seeking to add up to a further 100 000 jobs to the agri-processing sector. We have to make sure our young people are able to take advantage of these opportunities,” said Minister Winde.
Learners will receive information and guidance on potential career paths. The initiative is a partnership between the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Boschendal. Elsenburg College (part of the Provincial Department of Agriculture) will be among the exhibitors. The Provincial Department of Education, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Stellenbosch University as well as various other external exhibitors will also be exhibiting.
High school learners from Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch will attend the three-day exhibition as well as a number from the Metropole.
It’s been such a pleasure to have the Agricultural careers expo here on our farm as we also believe this is vital for the future of our country.
