@ De Morgenzon Wine EstatePinkDrive will be at DeMorgenzon Winery in Stellenbosch on 16th October, 2014 to provide education and clinical breast examinations to residents from the area. This is set to be the beginning of a PinkDrive breast health campaign in the winelands of the Western Cape. With the help of Wendy Appelbaum, DeMorgenzon Winery owner, PinkDrive will now be able to provide all women from the surrounding area with much needed breast healthcare in an area where medical services are not easily accessible. Wendy will not only be sponsoring the visit, but should any patient receive a referral for further screening, she has offered to pay for each and every one to get a mammogram at 2 Military Hospital.
“Today, the biggest cancer killer of women in South Africa, is breast cancer. It is imperative that we educate women to know how important it is to how to do clinical examinations. I know that any workforce that is well, will be more productive. It is one of the reasons, that I got involved with PinkDrive in 2013, and offered De Morgenzon as a ‘launch pad‘, so that PinkDrive could actively start engaging with wine farm owners and employees throughout the Western Cape, by taking PinkDrive’s ‘womens health program’ to the people”, says Wendy Appelbaum, DeMorgenzon Winery owner and Founder of Wendy Appelbaum Women’s Health Institute.
The services will not only be offered to De Morgenzon Winery’s staff, staff and farm workers from neighbouring farms, Jordan, Meerlust, By den Weg & the Sustainability Institute, but all women in the Stellenbosch area. The event will begin at 09:00 on 16th October 2014, with clinical breast examinations being provided through the duration of the morning with the educational talk at 10:00.
“It is our hope that businesses in the Western Cape will take up the mantle for breast cancer awareness and join Wendy in providing services to their workers. This sort of campaign has the power to change so many lives in such a drastic way as ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’ and they will be enabling us to do what we do best: educating medically uninsured individuals and providing them with breast healthcare,” says Noelene Kotschan, Founder and CEO of PinkDrive.
