It has been a momentous week for esteemed Stellenbosch winery, Eikendal Vineyards, being honoured by both Tim Atkin and the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Internationally acclaimed wine critic, Tim Atkin MW, has released his annual South African report, awarding Medals of Excellence to the best South African wines as rated according to international standards. Eikendal Vineyards’ wines received top honours again with the newly released Elgin-based Mon Désir Chardonnay 2017 and the flagship Bordeaux-style blend, Classique 2016, excelled with 95/100 points. The popular Charisma 2017 (a unique Shiraz, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese blend), as well as the much-anticipated Infused by Earth Chardonnay, were both awarded 94/100, followed by the Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Chardonnay 2017, Merlot 2016 and Pinotage 2017 hot on the heels with a result of 93/100. The Sauvignon Blanc 2016 scored 92/100 and the Janina Unwooded Chardonnay 2017 a well-deserved 90/100, bringing Eikendal’s tally to an astounding ten wines scoring more than 90/100 – by all accounts a phenomenal achievement.

Tim Atkin was not the only international judge of note to recognise Eikendal’s superb wines. In the London-based International Wine & Spirit Competition, the Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 was awarded a much-coveted gold medal.

A Cellar Master, Nico Grobler, said that he was delighted with the results. “It is the result of hard work, a dedicated team and a total commitment to excellence in our vineyards, our cellar and ultimately our wines which speaks of the freshness and finesse we strive towards.”

Eikendal, conveniently situated between Stellenbosch and Somerset West on the R44, is renowned for its award-winning internationally acclaimed wines. Visitors can enjoy a Wine Tasting of these highly acclaimed wines, a Pizza and/or Cheesecake Pairing, a Cookie Tasting for the young ones and a popular kids’ play area. Cucina di Giovanni @ Eikendal offers long and languid lunches and dinners and visitors even have the option of extending their Eikendal Experience by spending the night at the Eikendal Lodge.
