Who are we?

A large three-metre high statue of Nelson Mandela is at the entrance to the Drakenstein Correctional Centre near Paarl, where he spent the last years of his incarceration before being released on 11 February 1990. It was commissioned by Struggle stalwart Tokyo Sexwale from Cape Town sculptor Jean Doyle. The minimum security prison is now a registered historic site.The march to South-Africa’s post-apartheid era literally started at this spot when a formidable man gave his first steps to freedom.
