PUBLIC PROFILE

Who are we?

Montagu Coöperative Winecellar Limited is situated at the beginning of the Little Karoo about 200km from Cape Town on Route 62. Montagu Muskadelboere Koöperasie (name changed in 1992 to present name) was founded on 17 March 1941 under the leadership of Mr DJ Burger Sr – chairman of 15 members. It was decided to use the established business premises and cellar facilities of PJ Joubert in Bath street (next to the present VIC Hotel). For a view years, from 1942 wine was produced here with the help of Mr Joubert’s staff. The Coöperative grew very quickly and under the chairmanship of Mr KW du Toit it was decided to buy the present premises in 1948. The cellar was build and wine was produced under the watchful eyes of Dr Costa and Mr Moni. The Monis Marsala and Moscato had its origin in this very same cellar that is still used for our own products and so the tradition is kept alive. From 800t grapes and 15 members in 1942 the cellar grew to 13 000t grapes and 61 members in 2011. These day
