Paarl is feeling the craft beer pull and has its own share of great craft beer breweries. If you love good beer then you definitely need to visit these two this summer. Even better, why not book a tour with The Beer Route who offers an excellent craft beer experience.

Berg River Brewery

Berg River Brewery is the brain child and hard work of the “Three Musketeers” as they call themselves namely Glen, Shaun and Jörg.

Their wish to have a brewery finally took hold in 2012.

The passion and energy the three share for Berg River Brewery is evident in their beers.

The Taproom is the perfect front for their brewery. Built from the ground up by Glen, Shaun and the team, it is their home away from home and pride and joy.

The purpose of The Taproom is not solely to sell beer, they see it as a place to share their enthusiasm about why they choose to do what they.

They want visitors to share in their enthusiasm. Whatever your interest in brewing, it always a place where you can relax, enjoy some great beers and interesting company.

Soul Barrel Brewing Co.

At Soul Barrel, they believe beer is the greatest beverage in the world and that savouring a world class brew can be a life changing experience.

Their brewery exists to contribute to those epic moments by brewing artisanal, innovative beer and helping make South African beer culture equal to any in the world.

Established when founder Nick Smith migrated from the Soul City of New Orleans to the Mother City of Cape Town, Soul Barrel was founded on the belief that real beer is made with soul. Their brewing embodies their passion for hoppy ales, old world fermentations that harness the art of aging beer in wood and local ingredients that express flavours of the Cape.

Their beer is characterized by an uncompromising commitment to quality and is a reflection of the time, place and personality of the people who brew it.

Our beer is only available onsite at our taproom, beer garden, and in growlers to go.  It would be easier to bottle and distribute but we believe in serving our beer as fresh as possible so our customers can enjoy the beer as intended.  The supply chain in South Africa is currently not ideal for beer and is kept warm for too long.  This decision means more work and more risk but we believe in delivering South Africans the best beer possible.

They offer an intimate tour and guided tasting of their cellar and brewery by their head brewers, getting an in depth experience of who they are and what their brewery is all about.
