Babylonstoren - Waterwise Gardening

Babylonstoren’s Waterwise Gardening workshop will share waterwise tips to help make gardening easier, and friendlier to local wildlife, by using less water. Learn about South Africa’s indigenous vegetation under the guidance of top botanist Ernst van Jaarsveld.

We start the day with a walk, inspecting different mulches and waterwise plants used at Babylonstoren. In the garden lecture room Ernst will give an illustrated talk. You will also have the chance to bounce the best plant choices for your garden off him.

In the afternoon we’ll propagate easy-to-grow waterwise plants from seed and cuttings to take home. Lunch will be served at the Greenhouse Restaurant and is included in the price. For hotel guests, the workshop is included in your stay.

Wine Valley Adventures

This two hour ride starts off at Wine Valley Adventures and the trail will showcase the breath-taking view of the valley with the Du Toit’s Kloof Mountain range as backdrop. This trail takes you to the lookout point at the top of Paarl Mountain where we enjoy sundowners and snacks while we watch the full moon rise. Alcohol strictly for persons over 18.

Alpaca Walks

New offering! The Alpaca Loom Coffee Shop and Weaving Studio are now also offering Alpaca Walks. Here we take you on a guided walk accompanied by our furry alpaca friends. After a short introduction, we explore the farm and surrounding area while offering more insight into the fascinating world of alpacas.

Afrikaanse Taalmonument: Sterrekykpiekniek / Stargazing Picnic

Locals can thank their lucky stars to live in a region with an incredible night sky that will once again entertain visitors with a stellar Star Affair at the Afrikaans Language Monument on Paarl Mountain. That's why the friendly staff invite one and all to enjoy a festive stargazing picnic in a beautiful setting on Saturday, 10 February 2018. Guests can explore the starry sky thanks to members of the Orion Observation Group (OOG) who love to share their knowledge and telescopes. In addition, a beautiful sunset and a free guided tour of the iconic sculpture are included, and the evening will be in aid of a literacy project.

The entrance fee is R40 per adult and R10 per child; tickets are available at Computicket or the gate, but booking at +27 (0) 21 863 0543/4809 is essential so that enough telescopes can be catered for. Stargazing picnics will unfortunately be cancelled due to bad weather.

Val de Vie Estate- The Bridge House Mile

The Bridge House Mile proudly sponsored by Standard Bank - South Africa, now in its 5th year will be hosted on Sunday 4th of February 2018 at Val de Vie Estate.

The event has gone from strength to strength since its inception and sees the introduction of an 800m swim at the 2018 event. The 800m event is perfectly suited for swimmers not yet ready for the Mile, but find the 400m swim too short.

Registration can be done on Friday 2 February 2018 (14:00 – 17:00) and Saturday 3 February

(09:00 – 13:00) at Bridge House School Theatre, R45, Waterfall Farm, Franschhoek.

Registration on race day can be done at least one hour before the start of your race on Sunday 4 February 06:30 – 10:30 at Val de Vie Estate, R301 Jan van Riebeeck Drive.

The Bridge House Mile event ties in with the hugely popular Val de Vie Market where friends and family can relax in the summer sun, savouring the finest food and drinks from the Valley while enjoying a game of polo and live entertainment by Stellenbosch Indie Band, Jackal and the Wind.

Pony rides, jumping castles, face painting, craft making and dough making will keep the little ones entertained.

Everyone is welcome to join the festivities of the Val de Vie Market starting at 10:00.

Learn to harvest like an expert at Nederburg

Join Nederburg’s annual ‘Harvest at Dusk’ Festival, taking place at the Paarl winery on Saturday, 17 February 2018, and discover first-hand how the 2018 wine grape harvest is progressing.   

On arrival, you’ll be treated to a glass of Nederburg’s refreshing Cuvée Brut. You will then be shown a selection of different grape varieties and given the chance to taste fresh grape must before it becomes wine. 

As the sun sets, get your hands dirty by picking some fully ripened grapes in the vineyards. Then join in the fun of stomping grapes and fully immerse yourself in this traditional way of making wine.

When the hard work is done, relax with live background music as you reward yourself with a bountiful harvest feast prepared by talented chef Edmore Ruzoza of The Red Table restaurant, situated in Nederburg’s elegant manor house, dating to 1800.

Expect family-style table platters, laden with delicious mezze to whet your appetite; farm-fresh salad and vegetables, crispy rolled pork belly, lemon & herb chicken kebab, as well as grilled sirloin as main course; and assorted mini sweet treats for dessert.

A wide selection of Nederburg wines will be available for purchase, as will soft drinks, mineral waters, coffees and teas. 

Guests are advised to wear hats, sunscreen, comfortable clothing and shoes.

Hero Adventure Night Series Night Series at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate

This popular event is taking place again on 9 February 2018 at the Hero Adventure Trails on Rhebokskloof Wine Estate.

Registration takes place at Rhebokskloof Trail Centre from 16:00 on the day and the first races starts at 18:00.

The Trail Run distances are 3km, 5km and 10km.

The Mountain Bike distances are 3km, 10km and 20km.

There is nothing quite like running, walking or riding in the dark on of the most amazing trails under the stars in Paarl. All routes are well marked with marshals and some fun water points.

Great food and entertainment will be offered with casual meals and the Rhebok restaurant will also open.

If you are a hiker, runner or mountain biker, you don't want to miss this event!
