A laidback autumn lunch at Nederburg on Mother’s Day

Spoil mom this Mother’s Day (Sunday, 13 May) by treating her to a fine day out at Nederburg in Paarl. With its sprawling gardens, as well as stunning views of the surrounding Drakenstein Mountains and autumn vines, the venue will appeal to the whole family. A taste journey of full-blown South African flavour awaits those with an appetite for discovery.

Chef’s Edmore Ruzoza’s and his team will be dishing up a heart-warming autumn lunch, featuring an appetite whetting starter of a choice of smoked snoek samoosas, beetroot curry and tomato salsa; or pumpkin fritter, biltong-spiced beef carpaccio, rocket, pickled cucumber and horseradish.

For mains, select between Karoo grilled lamb cutlets with Shiraz jus, served with sweet potato fondant and roasted courgettes; fresh line fish, squid, poached olives, steamed broccoli and Choron caper sauce; or oven-roasted lemon and thyme crispy garlic mushrooms with creamy gorgonzola sauce.

Desserts are to-die-for, featuring a choice between dark chocolate torte served with vanilla bean ice cream and gooseberry coulis, or a delectable trio of strawberry macaroons, a milkshake shot and balsamic strawberries.

There will be a wide selection of award-winning Nederburg wines, offered by the glass and by the bottle, including The Winemasters, Heritage Heroes, Ingenuity and Two Centuries collections. The restaurant’s wine steward, Ramzy Mahlangu, will be close by to tell you more about the wines, and help with any pairing suggestions.

To top it off, every mother will be treated to a surprise gift from Nederburg.

The Mother’s Day meal, offered from 12:00, costs R380 per person (wine and service charge excluded).  Booking is essential, and full payment is required to secure a booking.  Children are also catered for, at around R70 a head.
