Head for the magnificent Babylonstoren this October and take part in some educational workshops. Spend the day and discover the versatility of herbs. Also learn more about the bees that not only produce honey for Babel restaurant, but also play a key role in the garden ecosystem with pollination.
Babylonstoren – Bee Workshop

Warmer weather brings more buzz to our garden. Cape honeybees are VIP residents at Babylonstoren and in spring they are hard at work foraging for pollen and nectar. Not only do they produce honey for Babel Restaurant, but they also play a key role in the garden ecosystem through pollination.
On our walk through the garden we’ll look at the plants favoured by bees, from nectar-filled annual flowers to pollen-rich trees. Discover the collection of different shaped bee-hives – from the traditional woven skep, the practical Langstroth with moveable. Learn more about the local indigenous Cape honeybee and the basics of beekeeping. Inspect the hives with us while we parade in our beekeeping suits.
Sweet honey will be on the lunch table, to be served at the Greenhouse Restaurant and is included in the price.

We start the day with a walk through the kitchen garden to have a look at the plants that attract bees.
After lunch we put on our beekeeping suits to inspect the hives in the garden and to harvest fresh honey.
Lunch will be enjoyed at the Greenhouse restaurant and is included in the price.

Babylonstoren – Herb Workshop

Spend the day with Gundula and Constance and discover the versatility of herbs. This sensory experience starts with a walk through the garden to pick different herbs whilst discussing how to grow and use them. The passionate duo will share their knowledge and showcase the endless uses of herbs for health and fragrance purposes to purify the home and the soul. They will also give tips on preserving exotic tastes as well as creating ointments with effects that are much more than skin-deep.
In the afternoon, we will make cuttings of our favourite herbs to grow at home. We’ll also make tussie-mussie bouquets from herbs picked from the garden for each participant to take home.
