Summer fun ranges from outdoor and stargazing picnic concerts to live outdoor music performances, open air movie screenings, year-end functions and garden parties.
Picnic Concert: Joshua na die Reën
1 December 2018 from 20:00 – 21:00
Joshua na die Reën celebrates the summer at the Afrikaans Language Monument. The Garden Theatre opens her arms for this talented musician.
Soothing, intelligent and flowing from the heart; this is the musical experience that Joshua na die Reën will bring to the Afrikaans Language Monument on Paarl Mountain on Saturday, 1 December, for the first summer concert of the new season.
The show starts at 20:00 in the Garden Theatre – a smaller, more intimate brother of the famous Paarl Amphitheatre – on the soft lawn right at the foot of the monument while the sun’s last rays take their leave. Tickets, which are expected to sell out quickly, are available at Computicket and the Language Monument at R140 for adults, R130 for students and R70 for children under 13.

Stargazing Picnics at the Afrikaans Language Monument
8 December 2018 & 5 January 2018 from 18:00 – 22:30
“Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere” at the iconic Language Monument the stargazing picnics will eye the (in)visible comets.
Locals can thank their lucky stars to live in region with an incredible night sky that will once again entertain visitors during stargazing picnics at the Afrikaans Language Monument on Paarl Mountain. Guests can explore the starry sky thanks to members of the Orion Observation Group (OOG) who love to share their knowledge and telescopes.
The theme is “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere” and the picnic starts at 18:00. The guided tour of the monument is at 18:30 and visitors can watch the stars from 20:00 to 22:30 with the aid of the telescopes.
Please remember binoculars and warm clothes. The picnic series is in aid of ‘Let’s Read!’, the Language Monument’s reading project for children. Picnic-goers are requested to bring a new or second-hand children’s book to donate to this project.

Picnic Concert with “The Rockets”

To light up the summer and New Year, the ever-so-popular R&B/pop group, The Rockets, will once again ascend Paarl Mountain to get 2019 off to a merry start.
The place? The Afrikaans Language Monument.
The date? Friday, 25 January.
Their concert is in part in aid of the Let’s Read! Literacy project for children and visitors are asked to bring and donate any children’s books for this purpose.
The show commences at 20:00 in the Garden Theatre.
