With spring we celebrate bubbles by sipping on Paarl Wine Route wineries’ finest Method Cap Classiques (MCC). Méthode Cap Classique is the term used to describe South African sparkling wines made in the traditional French method (methode champenoise). Our wine route has outstanding producers. Let us raise a glass to them and celebrate bubbles and life!
For the maiden release of their premium Methode Cap Classique Boland Cellar went for a unique approach to reflect the distinctive style and heritage of the product. The symbolic use of the knight was an evolution of the original Boland logo reaffirming that Boland Cellar is a well-established brand with a loyal consumer base. The brand is considered to be experienced in the wine making industry and the inspiration was to visually represent that they are not entering this market segment as a novice. A knight is a symbol of honour, courage and represents being a collective of forerunners. This is the essence of ‘Together in Collaboration’. They are also daring to push the boundaries by opting for a Chenin Blanc varietal.
This vintage Chenin Blanc Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) completes Boland Cellar’s specialised Chenin Blanc portfolio of six different wines. The versatility of Chenin Blanc is expressed in this classically elegant sparkling wine, made according to the traditional French bottle fermentation method.
The Chenin Blanc Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) is an elegant and complex MCC with expressions of creaminess and oat biscuit flavours, delivering delicately fine ever-streaming bubbles. Gentle flavours of stone fruit, hints of tropical and guava fruits with a dash of fresh green apple flavours follow through with bright minerality and a balanced, lingering finish. This versatile wine would be best enjoyed with seafood starters such as oysters, followed by line fish and finished with nougat coated in chocolate with strawberries.
Have you tried Nederburg’s absolutely deliciously crisp, zesty and refreshing Méthode Cap Classique Brut 2013? You might not, as this special dry sparkling wine is exclusively available from their home in Paarl or via their online shop. However, it is really easy to order to get your bottle delivered straight to your door (anywhere in South Africa).
Their very first, and successful, attempt at creating an MCC at Nederburg, is meant to commemorate their farm’s journey of more than two centuries of winemaking excellence.
This sophisticated, elegantly complex and dry effervescent wine is made in the traditional bottle-fermented style, from a cellar-selected blend of premium noble grape varieties, Chardonnay (50%) and Pinot noir (50%).
Made by previous cellar-master Andrea Freeborough, this impressive MCC Brut is bright and clear in colour with golden undertones. Expect delicate aromas of crisp green apples, orange peel and almonds opening up into red berries. The rich, layered and elegantly dry palate is reminiscent of freshly-baked brioche with notes of citrus and juicy red berry fruit.
An ideal accompaniment to any occasion, this MCC is outstanding with fresh sushi, oysters and caviar, fresh summer salads, cold soups and many other dishes. The effervescence cuts through butter, egg or cream-based sauces, while the acidity serves to either clean the palate after subtly flavoured dishes, or compliment the tartness of tomato-based dishes.
Fairview and their winemakers, under the careful guidance of Charles Back, love to break with tradition. In fact, they’re all about doing things differently. This has really come to the fore with their Fairview Charles Back Brut Méthode Cap Classique (MCC), a re-imagined take on the classic bubbly. Traditionally, Champagne (in France) and MCC (in South Africa), is made using the grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
For Fairview’s version, they’ve decided to break with tradition, and use a celebration of Mediterranean varieties – Viognier and Grenache Blanc – for their bubbly. Aromas of lime, apple and freshly baked Ciabatta crust on the nose with a creamy palate of green apples, quince and a lingering freshness.
Perdeberg Wines’ MCC Chenin Blanc 2018 is part of their Vineyard Collection Wines. This range is made from specific vineyards, each with its unique character for its cultivar and terroir.
Registered as an Old Vine Chenin their Vineyard Collection MCC Chenin Blanc 2018 is green in colour. Notes of green pear, Granny Smith apples, lime and grapefruit are all evident on the nose. There is fresh minerality on the palate with a biscuit finish. FOOD PAIRING Serve well-chilled as an aperitif at any festival or special occasion, and pair it with oysters or fresh seafood dishes.
