Paarl Awarded the SA MTB National Champs XCM

The City of Drakenstein has been awarded the Prestigious National Marathon Mountain Bike Championships for 2021. Come 27 February 2021 the best of the best will descend on the Paarl Adventure Trail network in Paarl, Western Province, South Africa to challenge for the honour of being South African Champion.
Darren Herbst, Director of Paarl Adventure Trails made the announcement late Thursday afternoon. “Paarl Adventure Trails with the support of the City of Drakenstein and many landowners embarked on a vision 3 years ago to develop an extensive trail network on and around Paarl Mountain Reserve. It has been allot of long days and challenging obstacles to get to the stage where we currently have about 150km of trails in the area, but been awarded the National MTB champs is very exciting and makes all the hard work worth it. We will be combining the Nationals with our Paarl MTB Challenge on the 27th February 2021”.
Paarl is in the Winelands Region about 40 min from Cape Town and world renowned for its amazing beauty. Over the last few years, the entire region as grown in popularity with Adventurers who are exploring the massive variety of trails scattered all over the Winelands. Paarl is becoming an adventure paradise because of there unique offerings that combines off the trail experiences with amazing trails for Mountain bikers, trail runners and hikers.
“The Planning for S.A Champs is already well under way and we really want to showcase the entire network. We have tried to develop a trail network with variety, everything from XCO, flow trails, good climbs and of course lots of custom-built single track. At this point we are looking at 80km, 60km, 40km and 20km routes for all the categories but exact distances, routes and event details will be released over the next few weeks” said Darren Herbst.
