- Ruah Campsite is home to where the first hydro electrical generator was installed by the Dicey Brothers in the Hex River Valley during 1902. For the preservation of their fresh produce, they needed electricity. In order to generate electricity for Cape Orchard Company’s cooling rooms, the Pelton wheel was imported from Italy and transported from Cape Town’s harbor to De Doorns, by horse carriages. Situated right next to the tranquil mountain stream that once was used to generate the electricity needed, Ruah Campsite is a popular recreational area with 5 stands, a picnic area, hiking trail and ablution facilities, situated in Elskloof,at the foot of Hex River Mountain Range , this venue is ideal for family getaways.
