PUBLIC PROFILE
Who are we?
- Paarl at a glance The historical town, Paarl, situated in the Cape Winelands, approximately 60 kilometres from Cape Town is named after the gleaming rock (second largest granite boulder in the world) on the mountain under which it is nestled.Paarl is home to a prosperous and culturally diverse community and the product of a unique history descending from Khoisan, African-, and Eastern Slaves, Dutch, French Huguenots, Jewish immigrants, Italian prisoners of war and Xhosa migrant labourers. A unique cultural attraction in Paarl is the fact that foundation of the Afrikaans language was laid here and tribute to that is the Afrikaans Language Monument on the slopes of Paarl Mountain.
