Who are we?

The Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary provides a permanent home for abused, neglected and elderly donkeys. The sanctuary is situated just 5km from McGregor. We are open Thursdays to Sundays from 10am till 4pm. We look forward to introducing you to our happy residents! "A culture of caring" . . . " Ons gee om"

Welcome to Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary - we are home to over 20 rescued donkeys. The Sanctuary has a Visitors' Centre which is open Thursdays to Sundays 10am to 4pm. At the Centre you will find a restaurant serving delicious family fare, a book shop and donkey shop where you can purchase our wines and other donkey related goods. When you arrive please come to the Centre to meet our Visitor Guides and let them introduce you to our donkeys and the many walks and spaces of tranquility at the Sanctuary.
