Summer’s here and the festive season is around the corner. With the onset of the holiday period everyone seems ready for winding down and discovering something new to kickstart the silly season. Although Franschhoek has an array of firmly established food, wine, accommodation and retail offerings, the valley is also kept on its toes with a selection of fabulous experiences awaiting your arrival. The valley may be small but packs a punch when delivering on experiences.
Regarded as one of South Africa’s premier social calendar highlights and the perfect end to a working year as well as kick starting the festive season, the organisers of the annual Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival, have made the tough decision to not proceed with this year’s festival. This decision has not been taken lightly and has been done in the best interests of all.
Although the festival won’t be going ahead as planned this doesn’t stop you from visiting the Franschhoek Valley during the festive period now that leisure travel is permitted. Home to SA’s only Méthode Cap Classique Route, which allows you to tailor make your own bubbly experience, why not plan to venture to the valley and turn what would have been a day visit into a weekend escape. Not only does September bring with it a new season, but we also celebrate in the news that most of our wineries have reopened to the public after an extremely long hibernation. September is also Tourism Month, and this couldn’t have been timed better as it coincides perfectly with the joint collaboration between the Western Cape government and Wesgro, who have launched the “We Are Open” domestic tourism campaign. This innovative campaign encourages South Africans to take advantage and explore the beauty and diversity of the many affordable and world-class attractions that Cape Town and the Western Cape has to offer. The Franschhoek Wine Valley being one of them.
Not only do we celebrate the start of a new season today, but we also raise a glass to it being International Cap Classique Day, which was initiated in 2019 by the Cap Classique Association. Not only is Cap Classique the largest wine growing category in South Africa, but the Franschhoek Wine Valley is home to the country’s only Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) Route. A route which you can tailor make to suit your MCC needs. With the weather warming up why not plan your Franschhoek MCC experience for your next outing to the winelands. Cheers to MCC and a new season!
