24 hours in Franschhoek will never be enough, except to affirm that this gorgeous Cape Winelands town, so steeped in history and tradition, has a myriad of activities, attractions, restaurants, wine estates and offerings that deserve much more time. On my recent visit I followed a perfectly designed itinerary that took my interest in sustainable tourism, art, food, people and animals into account. It was set at an ideal relaxed pace with one experience more heartfelt than the next, and I encourage you to try the same route on your next visit.

Art Franschhoek

As with good food and premium wines, so too fine art needs to be experienced to be appreciated. In 2016 the Franschhoek Wine Valley launched Art Franschhoek, whereby visitors to the valley are able appreciate the fine art collection exhibits on show during the months of October and November. This year Art Franschhoek will once again ‘open its doors’ to the public from 27 October to 27 November.

New Grande Provence Chef takes food evolution to the next level
Grande Provence has appointed Guy Bennett as new Executive Chef to lead the kitchen brigade at The Restaurant of this historic Franschhoek Heritage Wine Estate. A seasoned chef, Guy has worked his way up the ranks alongside some of Cape Town’s most celebrated culinary masters the likes of Michael Deg, Bertus Basson, Reuben Riffel and top pastry chef, André Steyn. Guy takes over from Darren Badenhorst, who is opening his own restaurant, Le Coin Français, in Franschhoek. 

Working with these leading chefs from tiny boutique kitchens to busy international hotels has equipped Guy to understand the diverse needs of his guests. He allows the changing seasons to guide his cooking and constantly seeks new ways of improving what he produces.
