On 20 March 2021, it will be just about one year since lockdown was announced and this gave us time to realize that it is no longer “I” anymore but “WE” –  to be humble, caring and to collaborate more than ever before. Legend Runner has created the new Uphill Challenge to create awareness of our tour operators and event organisers as these are the companies that have been forgotten – these are the people selling beds, promoting our country and our beautiful destinations.

The mission with the Uphill Challenge is to bring together the tourism industry in UBUNTU, creating awareness, hope and introducing domestic suppliers ranging from tour operators, venues, accommodation, activities and attractions, showcasing the magnificent facilities and services our industry has to offer.  The hospitality industry has been in an artificial coma for the past year and is in dire need of your support in getting much needed jobs back and livelihoods back on track.  Hope for survival has been fading and this event will help generate jobs and income during these tough times.

It is Ferdinand Rabie’s vision to see collaboration rather than competition. Hence a great variety of tourism suppliers will be present to showcase their facilities and offer brilliant deals especially for this event.

Paarl Rock is such a unique venue and iconic heritage site offering spectacular views for both experienced and novice runners.  “Our aim is for this event to become the most unique annual tourism, culture and sporting Expo on the South African calendar”, says Ferdinand.

The event will be lived streamed by Digi TV.

20 March 2021

Taal Monument – Paarl

 Description:

The Legend Runner Uphill Challenge is a fun trail running / walking uphill challenge.

Participants will run/walk uphill for 8.5km to Paarl Rock (this is the official challenge part of the event ) and then hike back down for 5km to the Taal Monument, where they will finish and receive a medal. There is also a shorter route of 4km.

(Participants who are slightly less fit and do not want to do the 5km hike downhill, can catch a lift back to the Taalmonument from Krismis Camp with one of our tour operators, but this will only happen after the last participant has arrived.)

This is NOT an official timed event. We recommend that participants register and use the Strava app to log their race activity and/or use other fitness devices for individual timing if desired.
