This boutique cellar, founded by the Richardson Family in 1996, enjoys a spectacular position under the dramatic Klein Drakenstein mountains, where sweeping vineyards and panoramic views over Paarl and its famous granite domes set the scene for a variety of attractions and a unique wine-tasting experience.

Mellasat is Home to the White Pinotage. They were the first in the world to produce and release the enigmatic White Pinotage commercially. It is made with no contact time and matured in Romanian oak to produce a unique offering

Visitors can sip on a selection of award-winning wines (including the one-of-a-kind white Pinotage) at the tasting room that boasts stunning views of the Paarl Valley and the craggy Klein Drakenstein mountains.

Their tasting room offers a selection of cheese and charcuterie platters (R215 for two), gourmet picnics and creative food offerings.

Currently their Harvest Picnic is a great option to enjoy in their garden after some wine tasting. Make sure to book your picnic basket before your visit to the farm 24 hours in advance.

A picnic basket for two costs R399 and includes a selection of cheese, grilled chicken pâté, lentil bobotie parcels, herbed potato wedges and tomato dip, charcuterie, marinated olives, garden salad and a bottle of wine (Seraphic or Shiraz Rosé).

“Food Synergy’ is available at their tasting room from 20 March 2021. Better than a glass of good wine is a glass of good wine with its perfect food partner. The interaction between food and wine creates a synergy that enhances both, purely for your enjoyment. The Mellasat ‘Food Synergy’ experience is flexible to your needs and can be wine based or food based.

There are two styles. ‘Petite Synergy’ is a pairing of small bites with artisanal, small-production wines. Five wines are paired with seasonally inspired bites, prepared by the winery chef. ‘Grande Synergy is a three-course menu consisting of a starter, main and dessert with a choice of dishes. Each course is paired with one of their specially selected wines. Because the menu changes frequently, based on the seasons, you should call ahead to inquire.

‘Food Synergy’ is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am – 3pm and by reservation only.
