Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and head for the Boland towns of Paarl and Wellington this summer to enjoy the great outdoors with fabulous weather and stunning scenery.  With lush green vineyards surrounded by towering mountain ranges, an escape to Paarl and Wellington should be on your must-visit list this summer. There is an outdoor escapade to suit any mood or fitness level.

Visitors looking for some entertainment, can enjoy the ever popular movie Mamma Mia! During Nederburg’s Galileo outdoor movie night on 16 December, while the Language Monument Garden Theatre will play host to Dance of Flames show of light, flames and fire on 30 December.

Visit one of Paarl’s iconic sites with a Paarl Rock Day Tour hosted by DJ Tours & Safaris.  Guests can hike through the Paarl Nature Reserve and even climb up to Paarl Rock before enjoying a traditional South African braai picnic. Get closer to nature with a reptile adventure at Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm or visit Bontebok Ridge Game Reserve for a game drive followed by a traditional braai in the lapa.

Keen hikers should not miss the amazing Welvanpas River Hike near the Bainskloof Pass outside Wellington.  The walk takes between two and three hours meandering next to a river stream and through lush vegetation.

The incredible gardens at Langkloof Roses are in full bloom and an ideal venue to relax and enjoy the splendour of summer in the Cape.  Take a guided rose tour, pick your own bloom, enjoy a fragrant foot soak or go on a tree hunt to identify trees on the farm.

More adventurous visitors can join Element Adventures for a variety of activities, including quad bike rides and tours,  a game of paintball, air rifle target shooting or mountain biking. For an adventure of a different kind, enter the Hero Night Series at Rhebokskloof on 1 December and compete in a trail run and mountain bike race under the stars in Paarl.  Let the whole family join in the fun during the Run the Vines trail run hosted by Onsite Events at Landskroon on 11 December.

Paarl and Wellington are both child-friendly destinations and most venues will offer special activities suitable for the young ones.  For more spectacular outdoor escapes, visit www.paarlonline.com or www.wellington.co.za.
