DISCOVER THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES
19 January 2022 l 10am – 3pm
Cape honeybees are honoured workers on the Babylonstoren Farm – not only do they produce an abundance of honey for the breakfast table at Babel Restaurant, but they also play a key role in pollinating many of their garden fruits, herbs and vegetables.
Babylonstoren host their workshops during the warmer seasons, when their garden is buzzing with Cape honeybees, hard at work foraging for pollen and nectar. Their workshop starts with a guided walk through the garden to explore bee favourites, from nectar-filled annual flowers to pollen-rich trees. They’ll then invite you to put on your beekeeping suit and discover their collection of diverse beehives – including the traditional woven skep, the practical Langstroth with moveable frames and the much-talked-about flow hives. Their beekeeper, Arné Stander, will tell the story of the indigenous Cape honeybee and explain the basics of beekeeping.
Steaming coffee from their Lekker Room is served upon arrival. A refreshing lunch at the Greenhouse Restaurant is included.
Only 15 places available. Cost: R850 per person. Please meet them at the Farm Shop

CRAFT YOUR OWN HOMEMADE SOAPS FROM THE GARDEN
26 January 2022 l 10am – 3pm
Learn how to make your own natural soap using Babylonstoren’s fragrant garden as inspiration. The class kicks off with guests harvesting their own aromatics (like lavender, rosemary or lemon leaf) from the fields and orchards on the farm. In the Babylonstoren Scented Room, you’ll learn how essential oils are distilled from natural ingredients before using these in your own soap. Practical advice on the intricacies of natural soapmaking, such as infusing, preparing and casting soap, will be discussed by Babylonstoren’s in-house compounder Gavin Hendricks.
Creating and blending different products like bath oils, balms and moisturisers may also be explored if time permits. Guests get to take home their own creations at the end of the day.
Only 10 places available. Cost: R850 per person. Please meet them at the Farm Shop
