Wine lovers have the unique opportunity to taste the best of Paarl wines at Proe Paarl – taste the best of the best, a wine celebration of the world-class wines produced in this prime wine region.  Visit Grande Roche Hotel on Saturday 7 December from 11:00 to 17:00 to sample wines that received awards at local and international wine competitions under one roof.

Paarl Wine Route is the second oldest wine route in South Africa and boasts a rich winemaking history dating back over three centuries to the days of the first settlers in the Cape.  Iconic brands such as Nederburg and KWV are proud to call Paarl home and was recognised amongst the top fifty global wine brands this year.  Paarl has been widely acknowledged as one of the top terroirs in the country for consistently crafting exceptional wines. Paarl also stands at the forefront of innovation with ground-breaking work done in the region, including the cultivation of the indigenous Pinotage varietal, the first white Pinotage in the world and unique red blends.

This Paarl wine showcase will be hosted at the magnificent Grande Roche Hotel, a historical monument turned into a 5-star luxury hotel. The beautiful setting is the ideal location for award-winning winemakers and passionate wine enthusiasts to meet and mingle. The hotel has been a landmark tourism destination for decades combining elegant opulence with a working wine farm and was recently acquired by Hansie and Theresa Britz, from Paarl, who have revamped the hotel that included the opening of the restaurant Viande under the patronage of by celebrity chef and culinary consultant Pete Goffe-Wood. Viande is the simple translation for meat in French and indicates the culinary direction of the restaurant.  The restaurant will be responsible for creating delicious canapés, a selection of handmade dainty morsels using local and sustainable produce,

that will be served during the event

According to Annelize Stroebel, CEO of the Drakenstein Local Tourism Authority which also encompasses the Paarl Wine Route, this is an exceptional opportunity to promote Paarl as a premium wine tourism destination.  “Proe Paarl – taste the best of the best” applauds the diversity and quality our wine region has to offer.  This is a celebration of our winemakers and their amazing achievements during 2019 and I hope that it will increase awareness of Paarl’s prominence within the South African wine industry.”

Tickets are available online from www.quicket.co.za at R400 per person.  Tickets will also be sold at the door for R450 per person.  This includes a complimentary wine glass, a tasting of all the wines showcased and a selection of gourmet canapés. Strictly no under 18s allowed.
