PUBLIC PROFILE
Well done Jayson! It has taken eleven years, but I have just found out the the Tulbagh Heritage Area has been approved by Witzenberg Municipal Council and has now also been publi...shed as the Tulbagh Conservation Overlay Zone in the Western Cape Government Gazette. This is amazing news and will ensure that our town, its old buildings and trees are protected and stand the best chance of being sensitively developed in future. Going forward a Witzenberg Municipal Conservation Advisory Committee will be established to oversee all development applications in the designated area. The designated area consists of Church, Van der Stel and Piet Retief Streets as well as the Galgeheuwel Nature Reserve. The purpose of the Conservation area Overlay Zone is to guide development in order to protect and enhance the character of an area, which has special historical, heritage, cultural, environmental, amenity or architectural value. The overlay zone gives the Municipality a mechanism whereby additional measures and conditions can be imposed with which to mitigate the potential adverse impact of development on the receiving environment. Tulbagh Conservation Area Overlay Zone An area may be designated as a Conservation area Overlay Zone based on its exceptional historic interest, heritage or cultural value, vernacular or other architectural significance, environmental or other conservation worthy aesthetic or landscape criteria.

OUR TEAM EXPLORE TULBAGH - WEEK 8 Shandre, Maritza, Franciska, Olivia, Cheslyn and Liana, met up with Jayson Augustyn-Clark, for a tour of the Church Street Kit...chen Garden, and the Peace Park. Jayson has a passion for the gardens, but is also well known for his knowledge of the history and architecture of Tulbagh. The Kitchen Garden was established in 2015, a not for profit enterprise, providing employment and training, in addition to a local supply of herbs, vegetables and fruit. Our own restaurant is supplied by the Garden. The Peace Park was created by combining a number of gardens, a number of which belong to the Hotel. It provides a beautiful open space for local residents and visitors to relax and enjoy a picnic. Both gardens are open 7 days a week, and orders for the Kitchen Garden can be made at https://cdq.co.za/shop/ The team then enjoyed a delicious picnic basket lunch, ordered from Carol Collins at Readers Restaurant.

Our greatest potential is to give back, make a difference and uplift those around us. The wine project was founded in 2020 and raised over R800,000 for c...harity.
