Anyone who knows me knows that I have a major weakness for Italian food. I love making my own pizza – bases included – and can also create a pretty damn good lasagne. A short while ago a good friend of mine invited me out to Wellington for lunch and pizza, or in this case, ‘piza’. Why the odd spelling? Well, I don’t know! Why would Val du Charron, one of the oldest farms in South Africa, have an Italian restaurant too? As an intrepid reporter, I needed to find out. Not because there was piz(z)a on the menu, or beer, or wine, or that said good friend’s boyfriend was driving… Oh no, it was for science!

Last month, The Husband and I headed out to Wellington for a change! I am sad to admit that visiting Wellington is not something we do often as we always thought it to be too far. But, it's actually less than an hour's drive from where we stay! Now that we have been, it's truly a great place to relax and escape the 'busy-ness' of the city. In 2017, Wesgro, in partnership with Explore Sideways, conducted the second annual Wine & Food Tourism Study in the Western Cape. The study surveyed more than 40 South African tour operators, accounting for over 19,000 itineraries booked over the year. The study aims to determine sector trends and identify changing market conditions in the wine tourism industry in South Africa.
