PUBLIC PROFILE
You see McGregor has no through road.
You visit McGregor with a purposeโ€ฆ to drink coffee, meander through the tree-lined streets, stare at the gorgeous houses, sip wine, eat good foodโ€ฆ well that was my purpose anyway.
Itโ€™s this somewhat isolation, which only adds to that nostalgic feeling of bygone days.
Unless you want to tackle the gravel road which connects the village with the N2 via Stormsvlei Pass.
McGregor was founded in 1861 and initially named Lady Grey, on what was then Over-den-Berg farm, so the history of this area goes back way more than we can imagine.
The name Lady Grey caused some confusion for the postal service as it shared itโ€™s name with another town in the Eastern Cape.
In 1905 it was renamed to honor Reverend Andrew McGregor, a prominent figure in the Dutch Reformed Church.
The town lies at the foot of the Riviersonderend mountains, about 20km from Robertson.
Itโ€™s charming buildings, beautiful gardens and quirky shops will entice you to only want to stay longer.
This is one little town you need to try to visit at least once in your lifetime.

A heartfelt thanks to all our wonderful stall holders for filling the day with colour, flavour, creativity and community spirit. And to the many visitors who came to browse, taste, chat and support local โ€” weโ€™re so glad you joined us.
The kids had an especially brilliant time hunting Easter eggs as well as making seed eggs โ€” getting their hands messy and crafting something they can take home, plant, and watch grow.
McGregor showed up with heart once again. See you again next year!

This morning, before the sun had fully risen, the first grapes of the 2025 harvest were carefully picked at Lordโ€™s Winesโ€”Chardonnay for their MCC. Harvesting at dawn preserves the crisp freshness of the grapes, ensuring the finest quality for this celebrated mรฉthode cap classique.
Itโ€™s a magical time in McGregor as the vineyards come alive with the energy of the harvest season.
