Just 15km south of Robertson, on the road to McGregor, lies Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve—a rugged haven of Karoo landscapes, hiking trails, and breathtaking biodiversity. In spring, the reserve bursts into colour as bright orange botterblom daisies scatter across the terrain, living up to its name—‘happiness’.

Hiking & Walking Trails
Choose from three scenic hiking trails that offer breathtaking views, unique vegetation, and abundant birdlife:
Rooikat Trail – 19km | 8 hours | A strenuous circular hike with spectacular mountain views.
Heron Trail – 3km | 1 hour | A gentle walk past two dams & bird hides (one wheelchair-friendly).
The Braille Trail – 1km | 1 hour | Designed for visually impaired visitors, leading to a bird hide.

Birdwatching: Spot African fish eagles, pale chanting goshawks, and over 175 bird species from the boardwalk and hides.

Mountain Biking: Take on the 8km scenic MTB route—best tackled early in the morning before the heat sets in.
